VICTORIA GILL by NO.32 17th - 28th June Camberwell Kabinett, 248 Camberwell Road, SE5 7JF PV: Thursday 20th June Finnisage: Thursday 27th June An exploration of urban maintenance and the cost of living in London, inviting audiences to contemplate the hidden efforts that sustain our lives in the city. Our cities function in a silent, yet consistent way. Every path you walk on has been laid, swept, and cleared. Every bin you discard your coffee cup in has been emptied, relined, and emptied again. Every shop window you peer into has been smeared, squeegeed, wiped, and dried. Hands have altered and produced every element of our cities, maintaining what we see and use every day. Our growing rent, council tax bills, energy bills, and all of the other expenses we pay to exist in this city each become acts of maintenance. We pay out to keep our heads above water while we scramble in our purses below the surface. FLEX offers a critique of this within the Camberwell Kabinett on Camberwell Road. The roadside ex-bus driver’s kiosk will be transformed into a contemplation space, exhibiting bricolage sculpture and other personalised items of maintenance. All items will be for sale, priced at the artist's own costs of living and maintenance bills. |
Viewing Info: Throughout the show you are invited to sit inside and browse the “catalogue” of the sculptures and prices: 17th-28th June.
Sculpture: Thursday 20th and Thursday 27th. 6-8PM. The artist and No.32 will be present. |
